Subject	steering u-joint : is it okay to hammer off?

Message	I am trying to disconnect the steering u-joint, and removed the two bolts at each end of the u-joint, but I wasn't able to slide the u-joint up and off of the steering rack pinion. Do these tend to get stuck pretty well after 15+ years? I was thinking some PB blaster with a well place screw driver and mallet could break it free and back it off the rack gear at the top. I tried to hit it a few times already, but did not let it soak overnight with PB.
